SCIENTIST III (MULTIPLE POSITIONS)

LOCATION:              PIKETON, OH

Pajarito Scientific Corporation (PSC) is actively seeking two (2) experienced NDA physics professionals interested in challenging career opportunities in the nuclear instrumentation and waste characterization field.

The Scientist III position includes knowledge and involvement with all aspects of nuclear assay of waste containers: gamma, active neutron, passive neutron assay techniques; system calibrations; system quality assurance checks; data reporting; and spectroscopy evaluations.

The Scientist III objectives include: Identifies and develops radiation detection instrumentation/techniques with emphasis in NDA. Developing techniques for new instrumentation as well as supporting the extension of existing techniques. Conducting oversight of NDA data generation, reduction and validation of the data received from the drum assay systems; and Review of measurement control data.

 

Oversight and performance in the Performance Development Program – independent grading of samples and ensuring that the NDA systems remain in compliance with the facility and WIPP requirements.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. Pay is based on experience (90-115K). Long-Term lodging reimbursement may be available.

Successful Candidates Qualifications

A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the following areas:

  • Knowledge in Physics of radiation detection and measurement instruments;
  • Analysis and review of radiological assay data and test results, especially gamma spectroscopy;
  • Preparing test plans, procedures and technical reports;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in neutron and gamma NDA methodology; and
  • Knowledge of gamma spectroscopy and/or active and passive neutron nondestructive assay techniques.

Additional knowledge in the following areas, while not required, would be beneficial:

Expertise in the use of various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Canberra Genie2k, and Canberra NDA2000; and Configuring, operating, and troubleshooting radiation detectors and instruments in laboratory and field environments.

Candidate must be able to obtain a clearance.

Required Education

A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, nuclear engineering (or related scientific discipline) or a combination of education and relevant experience is required.

Candidates not meeting the required experience and education criteria need not apply.

Essential Skills

Effective team working skills and practical hands on approach are important qualities for this role, as well as excellent verbal and communication skills.

Position is contingent on customer acceptance.
