PSC is ACTIVELY searching for qualified individuals for the following positions:

Physicist / Nuclear Engineer

PSC has a requirement for a Physicist or Nuclear Engineer to act as a Subject Matter Expert at a DOE site.  This will be a full – time position and the successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of High Resolution Gamma Spectroscopy techniques.   The position requires demonstrable experience in applying this knowledge to a wide range of measurement scenarios, including fixed system measurements and also portable HRGS measurements.  Knowledge of QSNDA would be beneficial.

 

PSC is continually searching for qualified individuals for the following positions:

System Operator; Various Locations

The System Operator position includes knowledge and involvement with aspects of NDA data and other duties as qualified and assigned: Independent technical data review (ITR); Instrument calibration, testing, quantification, documentation, and operations as prescribed; Test matrices by mixing materials and placing source tubes according to physics specifications to simulate waste in various containers; Order materials for preparing matrices and for on-site portable and mobile systems; Prepare dose maps to determine where radiation boundaries should be placed; Accurately position radioactive sources for measurement; Use forklifts and dollies to maneuver materials and matrix containers; and Operate radiation generating devices and sealed radioactive sources safely.

Successful experienced candidates will have working knowledge in the following areas:

Operation of radiation detection and measurement instruments;

Collection and generation of radiological assay data and test results;

Preparing test plans, procedures and technical reports;

Client on-site calibration, testing, and operations;

Using forklifts and dollies to maneuver materials and matrix containers;

Operation of large scale mechanical handling systems with some maintenance experience;

Computer literacy is required especially with MS operating systems and MS Excel.

 A High school diploma or equivalent technical training, or equivalent years of experience in the nuclear industry is required.

 

Physicist; Various Locations

The NDA position includes knowledge and involvement with all aspects of nuclear assay of waste containers: gamma, active neutron, passive neutron assay techniques; system calibrations; system quality assurance checks; data reporting; and spectroscopy evaluations. The NDA individual contributor objectives include: Verification and validation of all AMWTP-generated NDA data including supplements; Conducting oversight of NDA data generation, reduction and validation of the data received from the drum assay systems; and Review of measurement control data. Oversight and performance in the Performance Development Program – independent grading of samples and ensuring that the NDA systems remain in compliance with the facility and WIPP requirements.

Successful experienced candidates will have working knowledge in the following areas:

Knowledge in Physics of radiation detection and measurement instruments;

 

Analysis and review of radiological assay data and test results, especially gamma spectroscopy;

 

Preparing test plans, procedures and technical reports;

 

Demonstrated knowledge in neutron and gamma NDA methodology; and Knowledge of gamma spectroscopy and/or active and passive neutron nondestructive assay techniques.

 

Additional knowledge in the following areas, while not required, would be beneficial:

Expertise in the use of various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Canberra Genie2k, and Canberra NDA2000; and Configuring, operating, and troubleshooting radiation detectors and instruments in laboratory and field environments.

Candidate must be able to obtain a clearance.

A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, nuclear engineering (or related scientific discipline) or a combination of education and relevant experience is required.
